DOCK DE-ICERS / BUBBLERS
The use of de-icers or bubblers during the winter can cause some issues with our lake environment:
Large open areas of water can weaken the ice for great distances from
the de-icer / bubbler and pose a serious safety risk, as well as,
impede your neighbor’s use of the lake at their property for ice
fishing or skating.
Loss of light blocking ice allows for additional light through the
open water which can promote algae and plant growth.
De-Icers / bubblers tend to disrupt sediment from the bottom of the lake
which can release nutrients, such as phosphorus, fueling algae and plant
growth in the spring.
HL2 Guidelines/Recommendations:
Run the de-icer / bubbler for the shortest amount of time and on the
lowest effective setting to keep only your dock/lift area ice-free.
Run times are typically 20-30 minutes per night or in extreme
temperatures, 20-30 minutes every 4-8 hours.
The open water area should not extend beyond your property lot,
and have only a 10-to-15-foot radius from the de-icer / bubbler.
Only run the de-icer / bubbler when temperatures are below freezing.
If the de-icer / bubbler affects adjacent properties, please notify your
neighbors.
